Trump has broken the annual tradition upheld by the past three administrations
The White House did not host an Iftar dinner to commemorate Ramadan, the Islamic holy month of fasting, for the first time in nearly two decades.
United States President Donald Trump and first lady Melania released a statement on Saturday wishing "warm greetings" to those celebrating Eid al-Fitr.
"Muslims in the United States joined those around the world during the holy month of Ramadan to focus on acts of faith and charity. Now, as they commemorate Eid with family and friends, they carry on the tradition of helping neighbours and breaking bread with people from all walks of life," the statement read.
With this, Trump has broken the annual tradition upheld by the past three administrations that began under President Bill Clinton and was continued by George W Bush and Barack Obama.
The Iftar dinners were typically attended by prominent members of the Muslim community as well as members of the Congress and diplomats from Muslim countries.
In the White House, Trump has attempted to ban travel to the US from several Muslim-majority countries.
During his first trip abroad, Trump, however, urged the leaders of 55 Muslim-majority countries calling for unity in the fight against terrorism, in his address.

Residents seen running into burning Dubai building to save belongings
DUBAI // Witnesses have described the sense of panic as their neighbours fled from fire that swept through the Al Shamsi building in Deira on Monday night.
Emergency crews spent much of Tuesday hosing down the still smoking building that burst into flames at about 5.20pm, to guard against further fires.
Everyone escaped unhurt but some who returned home from work risked their lives to enter the building to rescue important documents and prized possessions.
Some of the people left without anywhere to go have been handed a lifeline as 48 families will be relocated.
Civil Defence were on the scene near the Abu Baker Al Siddique Metro Station within minutes, as concern grew that the blaze could spread to the Emarat petrol station on Salahuddin Road, escalating the crisis into a disaster.
About 280 guests staying at the adjacent Movenpick Hotel Deira were evacuated as a precaution.
Irtenz, 34, from the Philippines, lives in Block C of the building, next to where the main fire broke out, and said at least 15 flats have been destroyed.
“The fire started in Block B at about 5.20-5.30pm. When I came back from work I saw the smoke in the building next door and went upstairs as I thought my friends were still upstairs in their flat. I wanted to warn them,” she said.
“I shouted their names but nobody replied. When I came out of the flat, I could see the flames on the second floor on the front side.
“It was scary. There was one guy who came into the building and was running upstairs.
“I warned him not to go but still he went up. The fire was spreading quickly. I had stayed just five minutes to collect some things and it had moved very fast.”
Her neighbour, Richelle, 30, also from the Philippines, was not at home when the fire broke out but admitted that she had a lucky escape, as she lives on the fourth floor.
“I had my documents in a bag, so I grabbed it and ran,” she said.
“There are about 15 other people living in four rooms in my building. We are still trying to contact the building company to help us find somewhere to live.
“We will stay with friends for a couple of days. We have had to wait until we can go back into the building to see what possessions we can save.”
The owner of the building, Hamad Al Shamsi, along with Dubai Police, have relocated 48 families to hotels.
Brig Mohammed Al Murr, director of the police Human Rights Department, said of the fire-ravaged building: “The cooling process is ongoing, and none of the residents are allowed in for their safety and so there is no tampering with any evidence that can reveal the cause of the fire.”
Meanwhile, a Civil Defence spokesman said that 24 units were burned completely while the others were affected by the smoke. However, he added that it was necessary to relocate all residents.
Brig Ali Ghanem, director of the Al Muraqqabat police station, said: “The fire affected the whole building. Evidence needs to be collected by the relevant experts, after which the damage can be properly assessed.”
It is understood the fire was finally extinguished at about 3am but crews remained on the scene to continue the damping down of the building.
Hotel worker Jeffrey, from the Philippines, lived in the front side of the building and sounded the alarm to his neighbours. His apartment has been completely burnt out.
“When I saw the smoke coming from the building from B block and C block, I called everyone to get out and to run away,” he said.
“It was very fierce. Lots of the ladies were crying, they had lost their homes.”
Hundreds of motorists and commuters were affected, with the Metro’s Green Line shut down “for the safety of passengers” and Salahuddin Road blocked off in both directions.
The Roads and Transport Authority tweeted early on Tuesday morning that the metro service was back up and running.
“RTA announced the return of service on the Dubai Metro green line to normal and that is after the temporary suspension of service from Abu Hail station to Union Station due to a fire outbreak in a nearby building,” the tweet read.
The nearby Crowne Plaza hotel was undamaged by the fire and continued operating normally.
Anke Glaessing, general manager at the Movenpick Hotel Deira, had completed a practise evacuation with Civil Defence just days before the fire.
“Evacuation drills are something we have to do twice a year,” she said.
“We saw the fire and realised it could be a problem because of the petrol station, not just the fire itself. We got all the guests out very quickly.
“It took us just 10 minutes to evacuate.”
Forensic investigation work was continuing on Tuesday, although a cause has yet to be identified.
Pakistan's First Female Fighter Pilot Killed in Trainer Crash
ISLAMABAD — Pakistan's first female fighter pilot died today when a twin-seat fighter aircraft crashed in Punjab province on a training mission.
A statement from the Pakistan Air Force soon after the crash said "an FT-7PG aircraft, while on a routine operational training mission, crashed near Kundian (Mianwali). Both the pilots of the aircraft ejected safely and [have] been rescued. No loss of civilian life and property has been reported on ground. A board of inquiry has been ordered by Air Headquarters to determine the cause of accident."
However, it was later reported that Flying Officer Marium Mukhtiar died of injuries sustained on ejection.
Flying Officer Mukhtiar was the subject of a report by the BBC early in 2014 that covered her decision to join the PAF as a fighter pilot. Pakistan has only had female fighter pilots since 2006.
Defense News was unable to obtain more details from the PAF's Director of Media Affairs Air Commodore Muhammad Ali as further information was unavailable in the early stages of the aftermath of the crash.

AIOU ‘passes’ student who had passed away
ISLAMABAD: The Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU), the largest distance learning institution in the country, passed a deceased student in a 24-day workshop he was required to attend on campus.
According to sources, staff members routinely strike deals with students to mark them present at workshops they fail to attend.
However, evidence of such deals surfaced when an MA Arabic Student (name withheld) from Gujrat was marked present in a 24-day workshop which took place after his death.
Before the workshop commenced, the student contacted some officials at the AIOU Arabic Department and informed them that he was too unwell to attend the workshop.
According to sources, the officials offered to mark him present at the workshops, in exchange for Rs5,000.
The deal was made and the money dispatched.
However, the student passed away on August 1, 2014 but the officials did not find out. They followed through on the deal and marked him present at the workshop which began a few days after his death.
According to the recently announced result, the student with roll number Y574473 passed the 24-day workshop which took place after his death. The result card, available with Dawn, states that the student is now only required to appear for written exams.
According to rules, if a student is unable to attend both the exam and the workshop, the result states R/E/W (Reappear in Exam and Workshop) and if a student attends and passes the workshop but fails or does not appear in an exam, the result states R/E (Reappear in Exam).
An R/E is written next to the student’s name on the result card.
The student’s brother told Dawn, his brother died on August 1, 2014 but is not aware of any deals made between AIOU staff and his brother.
A faculty member told Dawn that the university employs a standard education system, which requires students to complete their assignments independently and attend learning workshops before appearing for examinations.
“Unfortunately AIOU has been unable to counter cheating methods such as copied assignments and false attendance records. Such practices have been carrying on, unabated, for the last many years,” he said.
“If we manage to put a stop to cheating, our university can produce best students,” the faculty member added.
When contacted, AIOU Controller Examination Sohail Nazir Rana, who recently took charge, confirmed that an R/E on a result statement means the student is only required to reappear in exams and has passed the workshop and assignments component.
Regarding the issue of the late student, he said the university will hold an inquiry to determine facts.

The WhatsApp post claiming that World Cup is fixed, has gone viral. While nobody knows the authenticity of the post but users curiously check the match results with the prediction. There always has been reports that World Cup and other big tournaments are fixed in such a manner that interest of the Cricket lover remain till the last match. But it has never been proved. If the message is indeed true, then Proteas have lot to celebrate.

Kuwaiti Scholar Claims U.S. Never Killed bin Laden
A Kuwaiti academic is stealing the thunder out of the Obama campaign’s favorite talking point in 2012:
Abdullah Al Nafeesi, a former Kuwaiti deputy and political science professor in Kuwait University, said the US lied when it said its forces killed bin Laden and dumped its body in the sea during the May 2011 attack following more than 11 years of a search operation to find the most wanted man in the world.
“The US announcement that Sheikh Osama bin Laden was killed in not true,” Nafeesi told Rotana Khaleejia TV channel in an interview carried by Saudi newspapers.“I doubt that Sheikh Osama has been killed. I believe that he was kidnapped and is still alive. It does not make sense that a big power like the US searches for a man for 11 years and when it finds him, it just shoots him. This is an amateur rather than professional work. Otherwise what is the use of having all this suffering and spending billions all this time to find the man? He has been abducted and is now with them but they made us think that he was killed and dumped in the sea.”
Experts told Al-Arabiya that the scenario is unlikely because news would have dribbled out by now from the leaky U.S. government. Michael Ryan, author of Decoding al-Qaeda’s Strategy: The Deep Battle Against America, told the network that the decision to kill bin Laden was probably spontaneous. “If the order was capture first but kill if you need to… one can make a very logical case that the operators on the ground made the logical choice in light of having just lost a helicopter and wanting to make sure that this mission was accomplished,” Ryan said. “If anything else happened, I believe we would have some third-party evidence by now.”
Rumors are fueled by the fact that the U.S. never released photos of Osama’s body even when requested by news outlets, though photos purporting to show bin Laden’s body were released by Pakistani TV.

Verification Method:
Write Complete CNIC Number with dashes and send it to 7000. Shortly, you will receive a sms with details of CNIC holder. The details contain Name and Father Name of CNIC Holder. This sms will be in Urdu.
For example:
Write 1234567891234 and send it to 7000
Charges:
The worst thing about this service is charges of one sms. They are charging 10 Rupees + tax for each sms you send to 7000. It’s really horrible for those poor Pakistanis who are unable to eat properly. NADRA and PTA administrations should revise this decision. Additionally, Your Mobile should support Urdu characters otherwise you can’t read sms.
We all know that this is not an expensive or extra ordinary feature so government should asked these organizations to minimize rates. Most of Government companies also charge heavy call rates for mobile users like PTCL evo.

2014 Chevrolet Camaro Z/28: the legend returns with more than 500 hp
As an automaker, when you ignite reactions of ecstatic cheers during an auto show reveal, you know you’ve done something right. In the case of Chevy at the New York auto show, they took it a few steps further. The crowd on hand, those on social media, and enthusiasts everywhere erupted in rejoice as General Motors sneakily unveiled the 2014 Camaro Z/28. The most iconic model in Camaro history returns.
First introduced in 1967, the original Z/28 featured no automatic transmission or air conditioning. It was a track-ready machine and it held those attributes to heart. Unlike the ’67 Z/28, the 2014 version does not intend to compete in a specific race series, but it still holds true to the original’s core beliefs.
On-track, the 2014 Z/28 promises to be exceptional; lapping three seconds faster per lap than the incredibly proficient Camaro ZL1. Sticking with the numerical three, this speed increase derives from three key areas: chassis modifications improve cornering g to 1.05; carbon-ceramic Brembo brakes offer additional stopping power, and a 300-lb weight reduction over the ZL1 drastically improves handling. The weight shedding stems from lightweight wheels all the way to thinner rear-window glass. Even air conditioning is an option. Naturally, as with the Z/28 of old, a 6-speed manual transmission is all you get, and frankly, we wouldn’t have it any other way.
From a design standpoint, the refreshed Camaro, with its narrow grill, squared off back fenders and boxy rear end, adds to the cartoonish appearance customers are accustomed .To me, the revamped Camaro looks too gimmicky, but those modifications – mixed with additional aggression – work wonders on the Z/28. From being underwhelmed with the base 2014 Camaro, I became one of the many desperately thrashing for my phone to steal the first Flickr pic.
The powerplant utilized on the Z/28 marks the motor first introduced on the Corvette Z06. The 7.0-liter V-8 produces at least 500 hp and 470 lb. ft. of torque – an 80-hp decrease over the 6.2-liter ZL1. What matters, however, is that the Z/28’s engine offers a significant weight reduction, making the slight horsepower deficit immaterial.
The interior will feel familiar for Camaro lovers, with subtle aspects trimmed to save mass. The tiny rear seats remain, but eliminate the seat-back pass through as well as using high-density foam in place of rigid structural elements. All but one speaker has been removed in the quest for reducing the pound figure; one remains purely so as the seat belt warning signal can sound if you forget to buckle up.
“Our goal,” said Al Oppenheiser, Camaro chief engineer, “was to make the fastest road-racing Camaro possible that was still street legal. The Z/28 will be too track-focused for most drivers, but offers road-racers one of the most capable track cars ever offered from an automaker.”
That’s a bold statement, but having spent hours hustling the incredibly capable ZL1 on track, I’m not going to pass judgment just yet. With improved lap-times of around three seconds, that statement might be on the money. We don’t yet know prices or speed statistics, but what we do know marks the 2014 Chevy Camaro Z/28 as the best, and most surprising, machine at the New York Auto Show. I’m sure the Ford stand gasped even louder than we did.

Millions to switch off for 'Earth Hour'
SYDNEY: One minute brightly lit, the next plunged into darkness -- iconic landmarks around the world will cut their lights Saturday for the "Earth Hour" campaign against climate change.
Organisers expect hundreds of millions of people across the globe to turn off their lights for 60 minutes on Saturday night -- at 8:30pm local time -- in a symbolic show of support for the planet.
Many of the world's most iconic attractions, including Sydney Opera House, the Empire State Building and the Eiffel Tower will take part.
"What started as an event in Sydney in 2007 with two million people has now become a tradition across the country and across the world," Dermot O'Gorman, head of WWF-Australia, said.
"It's now an organic, people-powered movement... which is fantastic."
Last year more than 150 countries participated in the event which saw some of the world's most iconic landmarks dim, and this year the movement has spread to Palestine, Tunisia, Suriname and Rwanda.
Newcomers to be plunged into darkness include Copenhagen's Little Mermaid, the statue of David in Florence and Cape Town's Table Mountain.
In Australia, where Earth Hour originated with an appeal to people and businesses to turn off their lights for an hour to raise awareness about carbon pollution, the Sydney Opera House and Sydney Harbour Bridge will be among the first sites to participate globally.
This year Earth Hour Australia is asking participants to "switch off for good" and move to renewable energy. As part of the push Sydney Opera House won't go dark at 8:30 pm (0930 GMT) but will instead glow a deep green.
With restaurant diners eating by candlelight, Outback communities going dark and iconic buildings standing in shadows, O'Gorman believes Earth Hour has played a part in drawing attention to energy use.
"We've always heard anecdotally that it has made people change their actions and look at their impact on the planet in a more considered way," he said.
"Earth Hour has always been about empowering people to realise that everybody has the power to change the world in which they live, and thousands of people switching to renewable energy is a perfect example."
Sydney's lights out will be followed by countries across the globe, with the Petronas Towers in Malaysia, the Bird's Nest in Beijing, and the Burj Khalifa all participating.
In China, Shanghai's famous Bund will turn off its lights while in the central city of Wuhan, the Yangtze River bridge will be plunged into darkness.
In Japan, daily illuminations of the city's signature Tokyo Tower will be switched off, with visitors able to pedal bicycles to generate power to illuminate an egg-shaped art work.
In Japan's northeast local residents are set to light candles to both show support for the campaign and mourn victims of the 2011 quake-tsunami disaster, organisers said.
In Singapore, the affluent city-state's skyline will darken for one hour from 8:30pm (1230 GMT) as more than 100 buildings take part, while Hong Kong's famous skyline will also dim.
Earth Hour will also see famous landmarks such as the Eiffel Tower, the Brandenburg Gate, London's Buckingham Palace, the Empire State Building in New York and Niagara Falls take part. (AFP)
